How To Cook Butternut Squash On A Stove

First of all, let us start by peeling and cutting the butternut squash into cubes. Next, put it in the microwave to cook for about three minutes.

And the reason for microwaving it first is that, when it goes into the frying pan, butternut squash cooks from the outside in.

However, it cooks from the inside out in a microwave. So when you combine those two elements together you get perfectly cooked squash. Otherwise, you might just end up with a burned squash on the outside and not well cooked on the inside.

Now put a sauce pan in the stove, drizzle in some vegetable oil, then pour the butternut squash in it. Season it with salt, pepper, rosemary and any spices and herbs of choice.

Stir fry it for a few minutes, add a small pieces of butter, some wine and apple cider and mix it well. Continue to cook it until it is soft and nice. Then serve it and enjoy.

Cooking Procedure

So, I am going to explain how to cook butternut squash in the oven into 3 ways titled as method.

Method 1: Roasted Whole Butternut Squash In Oven

First, get a whole butternut squash, use a knife or a fork to poke some holes all over it. So, putting holes on the squash helps it expel steams without bursting the squash when it starts to cook.

Therefore, do not skip this step. As you poke the squash, It might start to ooze out some sugary juices a little bit. That is absolutely normal and nothing to worry about it.

After poking it, place your squash onto a baking tray, lined with foil and transfer it to the preheated oven. Next you want to bake it at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour.

Because it is a whole butternut squash, it takes some time to cook. Meanwhile, you just want to increase or reduce the cooking timing depending on your size of butternut squash.

Therefore, you may need a little bit longer if you have a huge squash or a little less time. If you got a baby squash. Once your squash is ready to come out of the oven, it should be fork tender.

What that means is that you should be able to easily pierce it with a fork. Once it is cool to the touch, and once the squash is cooked transfer it to a cutting board. And then cut it into 2 equal half lengthwise.

Now you can easily scoop out all the guts and seeds out and trash it. But, if you do not want to throw them away, then wash and pick up the seeds. Then spice it up, roast it in the oven and enjoy.

Now that the butternut squash is cooked, scoop the flesh out with a spoon and prepare it however you will like it. For example, you can use it to make a soup.

Method 2

In this method two, start by cutting the butternut squash into 2 equal halves and bake it. Keep in mind, it can be a little bit challenging to cut through a butternut squash that has not been cooked.

Because it is very tough, But cutting it in half before baking will also cut the baking time by half. Certainly, you just want to be careful with that knife and be sure to use a good quality knife.

Once it is cut in half, we then scoop out the guts and seeds with a spoon out of it nicely. Next, we place each half of the squash onto A baking tray laced with baking sheet or foil.

Most importantly, place the half squash with the flesh side facing up. In addition, brush on a little bit of olive oil or vegetable oil on it.

Next, sprinkle it with salt, pepper and cinnamon or whatever spices you prefer. Put it in a preheated oven and bake it at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 25 to 30 minutes.

When it’s cooked, brink it out of the oven and it should be nice and tender. Also, it has to be easily puncturable with a fork to ensure it is cooked. Then, you can enjoy your yummy squash.

Method 3: Crispy Butternut Squash Fries Recipe In The Oven

So, in this method of making butternut squash fries or chips in the oven. First peel, the squash with a knife or a potato peeler. Then cut it into stripes like potato chips or into cubes and bake.

It is as simple as that, this method is great if you want those nice cubes or potatoes fries looks from the squash.

First, start by using a peeler or a sharp knife to peel it. Use a knife to cut each end of the squash off and then separate the long part of the squash from the big bulbous part.

Then cut the longer part of that squash into disks i.e. in circles. And then you cut those discs into cubes or stripes. For the bottom portion of the squash. We are going to cut it in half and again scoop out the seeds. And also cut it into our desired sizes and shapes.

After that, put the cut squash into a large mixing bowl, you can drizzle a little bit of olive oil or vegetable oil on it. And then add salt and pepper or whatever seasonings you like. I like to add some homemade chicken seasoning and some corns starch to make it crispy.

Mix it well and pour them onto a baking tray lined with foil and then transfer it in to the oven preheated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Let it bake for about 30 minutes.

Here , your yummy goodness crispy butternut squash fries is ready. Remove it from the oven and enjoy your perfectly tender Butternut squash bites. Just serve it garnished with some herbs and enjoy it with a dip like cheese sauce

How To Cook Butternut Squash In Microwave

If you do not have time for oven but you like to cook some squash. Then microwave is your best option. Most importantly, this is the fastest method for cooking butternut squash.

So, let us start by poking some holes all over the squash with a fork or knife. Again, this is going to let the steam out when it start to cook.

Next, place the entire squash into a microwave-safe bowl. Then put it into the microwave and let it cook for about five minutes.

This will soften it up a little bit and once its cool to the touch, we can cut it in half lengthwise. And then scoop out those seeds.

After that, you can place them with the flesh side facing down onto a microwave-safe dish and return them to the microwave to cook for 5 to 10 minutes more.

However, the duration you can cook it in the microwave depends on the size of your squash. For example, the squash in this post is a lot bigger than the regulars size.

Hence, it needed about 10 minutes to cook. Once the squash is ready, remove it and it will be nice, soft, tender and ready to eat.
