Spread them on a flat surface and away from direct light to dry (any form of light is not allowed, be it sunlight or electricity). However, just keep drying until they become bristle and you can break them easily. You can also decide not to peel it, a good wash is enough.
Alternatively, dry it with a food dehydrator at a temperature of between 60 – 100 degree Celsius for about 4 to 5 hours. However, if you don’t have a dehydrator, dry it in your kitchen oven at the lowest temperature for about 2 to 3 hours or till it is well dried.
Because you don’t want the turmeric growing mould at the process of trying to dry it under the sun in a situation where your environment has high moisture. Make use of dehydrator or oven to be on a safe side.
Grind It Into A Powder
So, once the turmeric is completely dried, Use the food processor in your kitchen to grind it for about 5 to 10 minutes. In addition, use your blender, or coffee grinder or spice grinder to grind it into smooth powder. Because it is tough by nature and also as a result of drying it, you will often not get a very fine product after blending the first time. So what do you do achieve a smooth powder? follow the procedure below.
For the purpose of getting a fine powder, you will need to run it through to a small mesh size metal sieve after grinding it. And after sieving out the coarse and uneven large pieces that refused to be crushed by the blender set it aside. Then collect the fine portion for your use.
