Gather some fresh turmeric, wash them thoroughly to remove sounds and all dirt. Peel off all the skin of the gathered fresh turmeric. After that, slice all of them into tiny pieces with a sharp knife. Make sure they are really very tiny cuts. This is because, the smaller they are the better the chances of them drying faster.

Spread them on a flat surface and away from direct light to dry (any form of light is not allowed, be it sunlight or electricity). Also, make sure they are well spread apart and none is on top of anyone. Furthermore, dry it for about 2 weeks depending on the the temperature and humidity level of where you live.

However, just keep drying until they become bristle and you can break them easily. You can also decide not to peel it, a good wash is enough.

Alternatively, dry it with a food dehydrator at a temperature of between 60 – 100 degree Celsius for about 4 to 5 hours. However, if you don’t have a dehydrator, dry it in your kitchen oven at the lowest temperature for about 2 to 3 hours or till it is well dried.

Because you don’t want the turmeric growing mould at the process of trying to dry it under the sun in a situation where your environment has high moisture. Make use of dehydrator or oven to be on a safe side.

Grind It Into A Powder

So, once the turmeric is completely dried, Use the food processor in your kitchen to grind it for about 5 to 10 minutes. In addition, use your blender, or coffee grinder or spice grinder to grind it into smooth powder. Because it is tough by nature and also as a result of drying it, you will often not get a very fine product after blending the first time.
